The Order for Ample Remembrance After the Fear Prayer
In this ayah, Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala is reminding the believers to busy themselves in His dhikr as soon as they finish the fear prayer. Dhikr is a recommended deed after every prayer, however, here they are being reminded in particular because the number of rakahs have diminished.
He begins the ayah by saying,
فَإِذَا قَضَيْتُمُ الصَّلَوةَ فَاذْكُرُواْ اللَّهَ قِيَـماً وَقُعُوداً وَعَلَى جُنُوبِكُمْ
“Then when you have finished the prayers, then remember Allah standing, sitting, and (lying) on your side.”
This means that the dhikr of Allah should not be limited to Salah but under every condition whether you are standing, sitting, walking, or resting. This is why we have been taught du’as for different occasions. We recite du’a upon waking up. We make du’a before eating our meals. We remember Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala even before going to relief ourselves. His remembrance is a constant act for a Muslim. It begins comfort to the heart of a believer. It’s lighter on the tongue, but heavier on the scales. Subhan’Allah!
A message for us over here is that as soon you finish Salah don’t start chatting with your neighbor or pick up your phone to check for missed calls and texts. There are different kinds of dhikr. Do shukar, astaghfar, recite short du’as.
Don’t be neglectful of the dhikr of Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala.
“But when you are secure, then (re-) establish the (regular) prayer. Indeed, prayer if prescribed for the believers at fixed times.”
This means when you have returned to the state of security, peace and tranquility now there’s no need to pray short Salah. Re-establish the regular Salah with proper rakahs as taught by the Prophet sallAllahu aalyhi wa sallam. This also means performing Salah at its stated time, fulfilling all its obligations, with humbleness, doing rukuh and sujood properly.
Salah is a duty, an obligation whose time is fixed. Therefore, it should not be postponed from its proper time. Ibn Abbas said, “The prayer has a fixed time, just as the case with Hajj.” Similar is reported from Mujahid, Salim bin `Abdullah, `Ali bin Al-Husayn, Muhammad bin `Ali, Al-Hasan, Muqatil. As-Suddi and `Atiyah Al-`Awfi.
– Constant remembrance of Allah whether sitting, standing, walking or resting. Dhikr of Allah brings tranquility to the heart of a believer. Never be neglectful of His remembrance.
– Praying complete rakahs are mandatory. Once you have returned from travel or out of the state of fear perform proper Salah.
– Salah should be offered at its appointed time fulfilling all the conditions. One can’t postpone it because they are cooking in the kitchen or watching their favorite show. The Prophet sallAllahu aalyhi wa sallam said that the best deed is performing Salah at its proper time.
May Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala give us the taufeeq to keep our tongues moist with His dhikr and perform Salah at its appointed time, aameen.
