Hypocrites Pretend to be Believers but Hide Their Kufr
In this ayah Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala describes the hypocrites,
“When they come to you, they say: “We believe.”’ But in fact they enter with disbelief and they go out with the same. And Allah knows all that they were hiding.”
Hypocrites pretend to be believers while their hearts hide kufr. In the morning they would say we have believers, but by the evening they would return to their kufr. This is why they neither benefit from the knowledge they hear nor does the advice and reminder move them.
Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala knows their secrets and what their hearts conceal, even if they pretend otherwise with His creatures, thus pretending to be what they are not. Allah, Who has perfect knowledge of the seen and the unseen, has more knowledge about the hypocrites than any of His creatures do and He will recompense them accordingly.
– In this ayah, there is severe warning for the people who don’t take benefit from the Qur’an. They are inattentive when the Qur’an is being read or explained.
– When a person learns the Qur’an he should improve in his character and heart. With whatever intention a person comes that is what he achieves. If a person comes to a Qur’an class to kill time then he will leave with killing time. If a person comes to seek some faults in Qur’an then this is what he is going to take along. On the contrary, if a person comes to take lessons from the Qur’an and improve himself then he will see the benefits.
– Nothing is hidden from Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala. We can hide our intentions and motives from people but nothing can be hidden from Allah. He is fully aware of what we conceal in our hearts. There’s severe warning for those whose statements of the tongue do not match with the motives of the heart.
