There’s No Salvation Except Through Faith in Qur’an
In this ayah, the People of the Book are being instructed to follow the Divine Shariah by making it clear that they would be reduced to nothing if they chose not to abide by this command. If they do not adhere to the Shariah of Allah, all their achievements shall stand wasted.
Say: “O People of the Scripture! You have nothing till you act according to the Torah, the Injeel, and what has (now) been sent down to you from your Lord (the Qur’an).”
Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala commands the Prophet sallAllahu aalyhi wa sallam to convey to the People of the Book that they have no real religion until they adhere to and implement the Torah and the Injeel. That is, until they believe in all the Books revealed by Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala through His Messengers. These Books command following Muhammad sallAllahu aalyhi wa sallam, believing in his prophecy, and adhering to his Law.
Iqama of the Book means consistently holding on to the Book, observing the commands and staying away from the prohibitions, and affirming the truthfulness of the news mentioned in the Book. In the ayah, it is being said to the People of the Book, not only that you uphold the Torah and the Injeel but everything that has been revealed from your Lord, this includes the Qur’an. Until you do this your religion is not acceptable.
Verily, the revelation that has come to you from your Lord makes many of them increase in rebellion and disbelief. So do not grieve for the people who disbelieve.
Tughyaan is the opposite of submission. It is rebellion. With every new command of the Qur’an they increased in rebellion. Therefore, the Prophet sallAllahu aalyhi wa sallam is being comforted it’s not your fault if they do not believe.
– Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala clarifies People of the Book are not on the truth. There’s no salvation for them unless they truly follow the Torah and the Injeel. Following the Torah and the Injeel means accepting Qur’an and the Messenger sallAllahu aalyhi wa sallam.
– A person doesn’t attain guidance without knowledge. One obtains knowledge from the Book. True deen is not just the name of outward actions, but adhering to the Book of Allah, learning it, and implementing it.
– Qur’an is guidance for those who have taqwa. If one wants to benefit from the Qur’an then also must work on their emaan.
– The da’ee should not feel guilty if after his sincere efforts people do not listen. Sometimes when we are calling people to the Deen, and no one is listening we begin to feel may be I am wrong. If a person continues to be sad then he’s going to harm himself. Grief is going to eat him up.
