The Wrongdoers are the Supporters of Each Other
Mentioned now is a dialogue before a gathering of Jinns and human beings on the plains of the Resurrection where Allah subhanahu wa ta`ala will address the Shayateen among Jinns telling them about their excessive role in misleading human beings.
Allah subhanahu wa ta`ala says,
Allah subhanahu wa ta`ala commands the Prophet sallAllahu `alayhi wa sallam to convey and warn that on the Day of Resurrection, Allah will gather the Jinns and their loyal supporters from mankind who used to worship them in this life, seek refuge with them, obey them and inspire each other with adorned, deceitful speech.
How do the Jinns mislead people? The Shayateen inspire long hopes for this world in the hearts of mankind, and beautify their bad deeds for them. The person is misled by Shaytan and consequently this person now misleads others. For example, a person is frustrated with his life. He has financial constraints and cannot honor his responsibilities. One day he decides to kill his family. And then from the fear of being punished by court he kills himself too. He harms himself and other people. He has become a prey of Shayateen.
Similarly, a person is so in love with a particular action that because of it he leaves his Salah which is an obligation upon him. Shaytan has beautified his bad actions for him and he obeys the Shaytan in them. He will not only stray away himself but also set bad example for other people.
Moreover, husband and wife are living cordially with each other then suddenly arguments erupt. They are now constantly fighting so much that the children are being traumatized, the families have become enemies. How did that happen? The Shayateen instigated discord between them.
In Surah Yaseen Ayaat 60 – 62, it appears that Allah subhanahu wa ta`ala will say, “Did I not enjoin upon you, O children of Adam, that you not worship Shaytan – [for] indeed, he is to you a clear enemy -And that you worship [only] Me? This is a straight path. And he had already led astray from among you much of creation, so did you not use reason?”
Expressing their guilt and regret the friends of the Jinns among humanity will say to Allah subhanahu wa ta`ala, “Our Lord, some of us made use of others…” [These will be the people who did not repent before death approached them.]
Al-Hasan commented, “They benefited from each other when the Jinns merely commanded and mankind obeyed.” Ibn Jurayj said, “During the time of Jahiliyyah, a man would reach a land and proclaim, ‘I seek refuge with the master (Jinn) of this valley,’ and this is how they benefited from each other. They used this as an excuse for them on the Day of Resurrection.” Therefore, the Jinns benefit from humans since humans revere the Jinns by invoking them for help. The Jinns would then proclaim, “We became the masters of both mankind and the Jinns.”
When people have the same goal and purpose they cooperate with each other. The goal of Shayateen and the Shayateen among mankind was same and therefore they misled other people. The human beings followed the dictates of Shayateen so much that they forgot all about death and the Hereafter.
To such people, Allah subhanahu wa ta`ala will say, “The Fire is your residence…” Mathwa [مَثْوَاْ] is a place where someone stays for a long time. The Shayateen and their allies were together in the dunya and then will be together in the Hereafter. We learn through ahadeeth, in the Hereafter a person will be with those whom he loves. Therefore, we should take note of who do we keep company with.
The allies of Shayateen will only come out of the Hellfire if Allah wills. Allah subhanahu wa ta`ala is Wise in dealing with His creation. He doesn’t do zulm on His servants. He is Aleem – fully aware of each and every action that people do. He knows how much advantage people have taken from the Jinn [in terms of magic] and how much advantage the Jinns have taken from the mankind.
In Ayah 129 it was said just like the Shayateen had an upper hand in misleading mankind, wrongdoers are made allies of wrongdoers. Ma`mar said that Qatadah commented on this Ayah, “Allah makes the wrongdoers supporters for each other in the Fire by following one another into it.” A person who does zulm on others, another person comes and does zulm on him. Why does this happen?
We learn in Surah Az-Zukhraf Ayah 36, “And whoever is blinded from remembrance of the Most Merciful – We appoint for him a devil, and he is to him a companion.”
A poet once said, “There is no hand, but Allah’s Hand is above it, and no wrongdoer but will be tested by another wrongdoer.” An unjust person befriends others like him who in turn make him increase in his transgression and injustice. This is a form of Allah’s punishment that a person is given evil friends who encourage him to do evil actions, commit sins and disobey Allah.
– We learn that majority of people are under the influence of the Shaytan because the term istakhthartum [اسْتَكْثَرْتُم] has been used.
– Using the Jinns to get any kind of benefit is incorrect whether it was to help someone or harm someone. Sometimes people go to a person who has Jinn under his control and ask them to cure them of an illness that they have been suffering from. And sometimes they approach the Jinn for harmful purposes. In the Ayah, it was said the Fire is their abode. Any action that leads to Hellfire is a major sin and should not be practiced. One should only seek help from Allah subhanahu wa ta`ala. Our Deen is complete and Allah subhanahu wa ta`ala has taught us proper method through the Sunnah of Rasoolullah regarding our day-to-day matters and that is what we should follow.
– Before cooperating with someone in a matter see what they are doing. If they are doing a wrong deed we would not wish to have a share in that.
– Friendship is always based on common interests. An unjust person befriends an unjust person. If we want to check ourselves we need to check our friends because friends reflect who we really are. Where our friends like to go, what they talk about and what they like to do shows our interests and preferences. A friend is a reflection of a person. In Surah at-Tawbah Ayah 71 it was said, “The believing men and believing women are allies of one another. They enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong and establish prayer and give zakah and obey Allah and His Messenger.”
Oppressive and unjust leaders are appointed over oppressive and unjust people. Many times we complain about our leaders but actually they are a reflection of what the society has become. The people have become corrupt and unjust. Leaders are appointed from the society. Don’t think it is a conspiracy. When Allah is angry with people He appoints unjust rulers upon them.
Whatever a person does that’s what he receives. If he does zulm he will receive zulm too. If he always speaks the truth other people will speak the truth on his behalf. Treat others as you wish to be treated. Mothers often complain about their children not eating properly, the best strategy is to feed a hungry child of a poor person and Allah subhanahu wa ta`ala will make your child eat.
