Read: Part 1
The beginning of Ramadan is determined by the sighting of the new moon. Therefore, one should make an effort to sight the moon. The Prophet ﷺ said,
“Whenever you sight the new moon (of the month of Ramadan) observe fast. And when you sight it (the new month of Shawwal) break it, and if the sky is cloudy for you, then observe fast for thirty days.” [Muslim: 2514]
Welcome the month of Ramadan with joy and supplications, and make the following invocation when you see the new moon:
May Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala make this Ramadan better than all our previous ones, ameen.
