People are often unreasonable, illogical and self-centered,
forgive them anyway.If you are kind, people may accuse of selfish ulterior motives,
be kind anyway.If you are successful, you will win some false friends and some true enemies,
succeed anyway.If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you,
be honest and frank anyway.What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight
build anyway.
If you find serenity and happiness, people may be jealous,
be happy anyway.The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow
do good anyway.Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough.
Give the best you’ve got anyway.You see, in the final analysis it is between you and God;
it has never between you and them anyway.
– Mother Teresa
The lesson for us is that we should forget what people are going to say to us, think about us or do to us; our matter is with Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala. As long as we are abiding by His commands and not disobeying Him, it does not matter what people think of us.
The reason that this poem was shared after the ayaat of divorce is that people oppress others because they forget Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala is watching us. He keeps a record of each and every step of ours, including the intention that we hide in our hearts. He knows why a woman might be compelled to seek khula or what her sentiments were upon leaving her house. She is not obliged to answer to people.
Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala gives us the command to handle our matters in ma’aroof and acceptable way, and to have His taqwa. If a person knows he has Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala with him nothing else should matter. So, be calm and do that which is right in the Sight of Allah.
Do not look at the society or what people around you are doing, look at the Book of Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala and see what He commands us to do.
