In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Asalaam o Alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu,

This study circle emerged as our personal quest to read and understand the Book of Allah. We were born to Muslim parents but never had the formal religious education. Like most non-Arabs, we were dependent on translation to understand the Arabic text. Then Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala favored us to study His Book as was revealed to the Prophet salAllahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, understood by his Companions radhiAllahu ‘anhum and followed by the Tabi’een.

Our story has been published in The Intellect magazine, Vol. 5, Issue 3. (Feb-Mar, 2014) titled: Why Should I Study Quran?

We are following the Tafseer of ibn Katheer. It is our main source of reference. However, there are times when the Tafseer is not adequately detailed that is when we refer to other resources. As a policy of full disclosure, we never hide our sources. We understand that your and our emaan is too precious to risk it. Whoever has ever written to us inquiring the sources, we have provided them the details. Below is a list of a few sources that we use ‘when’ we don’t find sufficient explanation in the Tafseer of ibn Katheer:

All the listed sources are authentic to the best of our knowledge. Tafseer ibn Katheer is and will remain our main source of reference.

Ask questions if you have any but please avoid fiqh questions. We are ordinary Qur’an students with a love for Allah’s Book and sharing whatever we learn. The best person to take your questions to is a scholar who has spent considerable years in studying and understanding all the matters of the religion. If you ask us any question that we have no prior knowledge of, we will go to www.islamqa.info/en/, search it and pass it on to you.

You are encouraged to correct our mistakes but please keep your criticisms positive. This is a humble effort to study the Qur’an, we are ordinary people with no accolades or titles to attach to our names. Any good that you see at our blog is from Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala and all shortcomings are our own. Please make du’a that He guides us to the best of the ways to practice and convey His Message. May He accept this service from us, put barakah in our time and give us the taufeeq of leaving what’s not going to benefit us in the Hereafter. We pray that it is a beneficial journey for all of us, ameen.

  1. Assalamu alaikum,
This website (via wordpress) is awesome! I was reading Quran and had gotten up to verse 104 of an-Nisa when I discovered it. The day I joined the site you were discussing the same and subsequent verses. Perfect timing. Thanks!

    1. Walikum salaam Ellie,

      1. Hi do you have a book form which has lessons of each verse or surah like you mention on this website ..it’s really good I am looking for hard copy

  2. This is really a good page. I learned very much here. There are real facts. May Allah keep us regular to understand.

      1. I have heard from an alim that maariful quran is not authentic. And it’s best to avoid Farhat Hashmi and her daughter taymiyyah zubair. Pls reply

      2. Sister, we are humans and everyone does make mistakes. The perfection belongs to Allah SWT, not to humans. We don’t indulge with the conflicts that Ulama has. We believe to take good from anyone which doesn’t conflict with Quran and Sunnah. Allahu A’lam!

    1. Asalaam o Alaykum,

This is conducted online only, but there are alhumdulillah several Qur’an institutes conducting classes on regular basis. If you can tell us where you’re located we might be able to refer a few places. You can send us an email at versebyversequranstudycircle@gmail.com in case you’re not comfortable in disclosing your location publicly.

JazakiAllahu khairan katheera for your interest. May Allah subhanahu wa ta`ala increase you in knowledge, aameen.

All good is from Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala. Indeed, it is He Who inspires man to do good. May He accept this service from us and keep us committed to it, aameen.

  7. Assalamu Alaikum. Thank you so much for this website. The detailed explanation, commentary and lessons help to connect and reflect. May Allah bless you and your team.

  8. Great website.

Was reading a verse in Al Nisaa and wanted to see what it actually meant. My understanding has been cleared up.

Thanks for taking the time to put this resource together.

  9. AsSalaamu ‘Alaikum.

For a while now, I have been referring to your blog for detailed Tafasir. Today, it struck me so I wanted to check what sources you refer to for writing them (since in my knowledge, Tafseer of Ibn Kathir does not provide such details). And I must say, I couldn’t be more glad to read your “About” section, Alhamdulillah.

May Allah accept from us and you. I do not want to praise too highly of your effort because your reward lies with Him alone, but truly, this blog has won my heart, ma shaa’ Allah.

May Allah give you all the opportunity to keep going until the Qur’an in its entirety is covered.

Keep going forward regardless of any negativity, you guys : )

  10. Assalam Alaikum,

Jazak Allah khair for making this blog. It is very informative. Would like to know if I can get PDF copy for Surah Baqarah Tafseer.

    Eid Mubaarak to you all.
    Taqabbalallaahu Minna wa Minkum.

Found some change in the Admin. It’s a sister now.
I was addressing as ‘Brother’ in some of my previous comments.
Even when this blog was not active some months ago, I said so.
Or did I make any gender blunder! :)

But one thing. The blog now has got a different look and approach.
From the beginning I am following this blog, MaashaaAllah you are doing a good job.
    Keep up the good work.
May Allah reward you all for your endeavours.

  13. Assalam Alaykum, May Allah give you all His Highest jazaa for all the work; learning posts are very helpful Ma Sha Allah. I remember one post regarding the grammatical understanding of the Quranic words. It was about the words ending in ” wow noon” like taalamoon, muslimoon etc…Would highly appreciate if you can post that again.Jazakumullahu Khairun!

    1. Wa’alaikum salaam,

JazakAllah khair for sharing your feedback. May Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala accept this from us and allow us to do better, ameen.

I think this is the post that you were looking for:

      Qur’anic Grammar Help:

In the Qur’an any word that ends with Wau [و] and Noon [ن] indicates that this word is a plural. Let’s look at some examples to understand this.

      yu’minoon يُؤْمِنُون
      yuqeemoon يُقِيمُون
      yunfiqoon يُنفِقُون
      yūqinoon يُوقِنُون
      muf’liḥoon مُفْلِحُون
      yukhādiʿoon يُخَـدِعُون
      yashʿuroon يَشْعُرُون
      yakdhiboon يَكْذِبُون

Now let’s look at their meanings

      yu’minoon: they believe
      yuqeemoon: they establish
      yunfiqoon: they spend
      yūqinoon: they firmly believe
muf’liḥoon: they are the successful ones
      yukhādiʿoon: they seek to deceive
      yashʿuroon: they realize
      yakdhiboon: they lie

Another noticeable thing in the above words is the letter “ya” ى . When a word begins with ya it indicates “third person”. Now look at the pronoun used in the translation, wherever a word begins with ya it translates into “they”.

*The words used in the examples can be found in Surah al-Baqarah Ayaat 3-10.

    1. Walikum salaam wa rahmatullah,

We apologize for the delay in getting back to you. Please note that the work that you see on this blog is based on transcriptions and lessons from other Tafseer teachers or institutes. You might want to contact them (see information in our About section) and ask for permission. May Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala put barakah in your project and guide you to the best way of doing it, ameen.

  14. Assalaam aleikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuhu.
Stumbled upon your page when I was looking to understand a particular ayah. I love the simplicity in language and elaboration of meanings. May Allah reward you for this.

  15. As salam alaykum
i’m desperately looking for a sister group studying and memorizing baqarah online free whatsapp or else. I’ll be so grateful if anyone could help.
    Barakallahu feekum.

    1. Walikum salaam wa rahmatullah,

I personally do not know any such group where they’re studying and memorizing the Quran for free. I am only aware of one class at the moment but there’s a fee for it.

I’ll ask my circle and get back to you if I find one. Will be it be OK to pass on your email address if I find such a class online or through WhatsApp?

I can see the email address from my end you don’t need to publish it in the comments or it will become public.

May Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala ease your task, ameen. Such a commendable goal!

  16. Salaam. There’s a website to help people search in Quran and tafsir in easier way: http://tafsir.learn-quran.co/en. You can find a certain keyword in Quran (it works like google), and the result will come out, including keywords within the tafsir. Currently the have English version with Ibn Kathir.

  17. Hi,

This is an amazing well researched and complied tafseer. I would like to contribute anyway I can.

I use the website myself on a daily basis to understand Quran with my missus.

Jazakallah khair. May Allah accept your work.

I do have a technical query. Is the website backed up? I am sorry for asking, but I recently started Quran Tafseer and do realize that its going to take me some years to completely read Quran with Tafseer. Is the website backed up?

Let me know If you need any help backing it up.

    Thank you. Again, Jazakallah khair

  18. Assalam alaykum wa RahmatuLLAH wa BarakatuHU.
May ALLAH SWT bless you all for the beautiful work you’re doing.
I would love to assist, if you would have me, as I saw sisters are needed for certain duties.
Please do contact me via my email.
    JazakumuLLAH bi khair.

  24. Asalam alaikum,

This is the best tafseer website that I have come across in English ma shaa Allah!
