In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Asalaam o Alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,
This study circle emerged as our personal quest to read and understand the Book of Allah. We were born to Muslim parents but never had the formal religious education. Like most non-Arabs, we were dependent on translation to understand the Arabic text. Then Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala favored us to study His Book as was revealed to the Prophet salAllahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, understood by his Companions radhiAllahu ‘anhum (radhiAllahu ‘anhum) and followed by the Tabi’een.
We are following the Tafseer of ibn Katheer. It is our main source of reference. However, there are times when the tafseer is not adequately detailed that is when we refer to other resources. As a policy of full disclosure, we never hide our sources. We understand that your and our emaan is too precious to risk it. Whoever has ever written to us inquiring the sources, we have provided them the details. Below is a list of a few sources that we use ‘when’ we don’t find sufficient explanation in the tafseer of ibn Katheer:
- Tafheem-ul-Qur’an by Maulana Maududi
- Maarif-ul-Qur’an by Mufti Muhammad Shafi Usmani
- In the Shade of the Qur’an by Sayyid Qutb
- Lectures of Dr. Israr Ahmad, Dr. Farhat Hashmi and Sister Taimiyyah Zubair
All the listed sources are authentic to the best of our knowledge. Tafseer ibn Katheer is and will remain our main source of reference.
Our Facebook page was started on April 23rd, 2012. Initially, we only communicated through our page. Later on, we started receiving requests from our readers to offer them a platform other than Facebook. That is when we created this blog.
Since then we have come a long way. Through apprehensions, dissuasion, appreciations and criticisms, we have learned a lot. Alhumdulillah ‘ala kulli haal.
This is also the reason why there is a disparity between our page and our blog. Surah Al-Baqarah and Surah Aal-‘Imran were missing from the blog because by then we were already at Surah an-Nisa and we didn’t have enough hands to align the two mediums.
We have now updated Surah Al-Baqarah, alhumdulillah and are in the process of uploading Surah Aal-Imran. We might resume the tafseer from Surah Al-Araf or improve the existing posts. We ask Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala to guide us to the right decision, ameen.
We are also looking for like-minded sisters who can help us with the following:
-Compiling of tafseer posts or transcription of lectures
-Formatting and publishing posts on WordPress
-Scheduling posts on social media
If you are interested in helping us out or know someone who might be interested, please contact us either through Facebook or by dropping a line here. We only look for three things: you are committed to seeking knowledge from the authentic sources, respect the scholars and you must have knowledge of proper English grammar.
Ask questions if you have any but please avoid fiqh questions. We are ordinary Qur’an students with a love for Allah’s Book and sharing whatever we learn. The best person to take your questions to is a scholar who has spent considerable years in studying and understanding all the matters of the religion. If you ask us any question that we have no prior knowledge of, we will go to www.islamqa.info/en/, search it and pass it on to you.
You are encouraged to correct our mistakes but please keep your criticisms positive. This is a humble effort to study the Qur’an, we are ordinary people with no accolades or titles to attach to our names. Any good that you see at our blog is from Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala and all shortcomings are our own. Please make du’a that He guides us to the best of the ways to practice and convey His Message. May He accept this service from us, put barakah in our time and give us the taufeeq of leaving what’s not going to benefit us in the Hereafter. We pray that it is a beneficial journey for all of us, ameen.
Asalaam o Alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh
